My name is Bobbie Yauck. I am a current patient at Fairview Park Hospital’s Pulmonary Rehab. I have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). My primary care doctor referred me into the program. After nearly 50 years of smoking, I quit but in the process I gained nearly 50 lbs. I was already overweight and had arthritis in my knees. This made it difficult to walk. I had no energy and found it very difficult to get out of my home. In this time, I had also developed blood pressure problems. I have been attending Pulmonary Rehab since April 2016. I completed the initial Phase 2 program and chose to enroll in the maintenance program to continue exercising. The program encouraged me to get out of my home and begin improving each week in my health and exercise capacity.

I am now able to do 45 minutes of cardiovascular exercise including walking on the treadmill for 15 minutes. I am able to lift free weights, which have helped improve my strength greatly. I have lost 51 lbs and now feel so much better. My blood pressure has stabilized and I have been able to reduce my medications. The program has been great and the people working there even greater. For anyone considering enrolling in the program but thinking they cannot for whatever reason- I would like to encourage you to try it. I know it is hard to commit to a long-term program but if you take it one day at a time, you will be amazed at how much you can accomplish. So get started- talk with your primary care or lung doctor today about enrolling you in Pulmonary Rehab!
