The Fairview Park Hospital Critical Care Unit is proud to honor one of their compassionate team members with the international DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
A patient’s testimony through an emotional three-week stay in Fairview Park Hospital’s CCU shows how registered nurse, Elise Frenchko, made a lasting impact on his family’s life. Through a difficult diagnosis and a long road to recovery, Elise was by his side every step of the way providing support and a smile.
“Elise joined the Critical Care Unit in July of 2017,” says CCU Director, Tami Thomsen. “She is a compassionate, caring nurse who is committed to providing excellent patient care.” The CCU cares for really sick patients. One of the greatest rewards for a CCU nurse is seeing the care we provide make a difference for our patients both physically and emotionally. Thomsen explains that “Elise comes in every day with a smile on her face ready to provide the same kind of care she would want for her family.”
The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s international program to recognize the efforts nurses perform every day. It provides a partnership with healthcare organizations to support on-going recognition of the clinical skills and especially the compassion nurses provide to patients and their families year long.
Nominations are reviewed by a committee of nurses within the hospital that select a DAISY recipient each quarter. A surprise presentation was staged in front of Frenchko’s colleagues along with a special reunion with her patient who submitted the nomination.
“Our hospital values the intentionality, dedication, and sacrifices that our nurses make each day to provide the best care possible for our patients,” said Donna Trickey, Chief Nursing Officer at Fairview Park Hospital. “In most cases, nurses explain how they were ‘just doing their job’ when they receive this award, but it shows how these acts of kindness and compassion make such a lasting impact on those receiving our care,” says Trickey. Nurses are our everyday heroes here at Fairview Park Hospital, and The DAISY Foundation provides a way for us to shed light on their heroism through this award program.
