Joint procedures we offer
Joint conditions can be corrected surgically through a few different procedures. The most common treatment to correct severe hip and knee joint disorders is joint replacement surgery. Joint replacement is the surgical replacement of a joint with an artificial prosthesis.
We also offer elbow and shoulder replacements. However, elbow and shoulder joints are also treated with joint resection (the surgical removal of the joint) and interpositional reconstruction (the reassembly of the joint from constituent parts).
Joint replacement surgery
Most joint replacements are performed to treat arthritis of the hip and knee. Arthritis causes joints to stiffen and become painful, making completing daily activities difficult.
We always try to treat conditions with the most conservative treatment possible, such as with medication and lifestyle changes. However, replacing a diseased or damaged joint with an artificial joint, is a very effective treatment and often the best method to relieve pain and improve our patients' lives.
Hip replacement surgery
Hip replacement surgery can relieve hip pain and improve mobility, such as climbing stairs and walking. When more conservative treatment options have failed, hip replacement surgery may be recommended to treat your condition and improve your quality of life.
Anterior vs. traditional hip placement
We offer anterior hip replacement surgery, which is a minimally invasive procedure and alternative to traditional total hip replacement surgery. Compared to traditional hip replacement, anterior hip replacement surgery may offer patients the following advantages:
- Faster return to daily activities
- Less post-operative pain
- Less trauma to underlying muscle and soft tissue
- Smaller incision
- Smaller scar
