Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery

Women may require a gynecologic procedure for a variety of reasons, from pelvic pain to urinary incontinence. The gynecologic surgical field has benefited greatly from the introduction of robotic surgery, which allows our doctors to use minimally invasive approaches in performing a range of women's procedures. Robot-assisted procedures offer many benefits, including a shorter hospital stay and overall recovery period.

We use minimally invasive surgical techniques in treating:

  • Cervical and uterine cancer
  • Endometriosis
  • Fibroid tumors
  • Heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Pelvic and uterine prolapse
  • Urinary incontinence

Our surgical options include hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) and bladder repair for incontinence solutions.

Benefits of robot-assisted gynecologic surgery

Robotic surgery offers many advantages and is especially useful in gynecologic procedures that deal with the delicate structures of the female sex organs and urinary tract. When compared to traditional, open gynecologic procedures, our minimally invasive approaches offer benefits including:

  • Decreased risk for post-surgical infection
  • Decreased use of pain medications
  • Less bleeding
  • Less trauma to the patient, including less postoperative pain
  • Smaller surgical incisions, resulting in minimal scarring

Labor and delivery services

When you choose our hospital for your childbirth experience, you gain access to not only high-quality obstetrics care but also neonatal specialists. We prioritize safety and comfort through our infant security measures and specially designed birthing suites. Parents also benefit from our childbirth education classes, where they can learn all about infant care, breastfeeding and what to expect during their hospital stay.

Through our 14-bed obstetrics and gynecology unit, newborn nursery and Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), we provide all the specialty services you and your baby need to stay healthy and safe. If you have questions about newborn care or our labor and delivery services, you can call the Women's Center at (478) 274-3270.

Mammography services at Fairview Breast Center

Breast care is an essential part of every woman's healthcare plan. For women 40 years old and older, annual mammography screenings are important to managing the risk of developing breast cancer. We use the latest mammography technologies, including 3D mammograms, to visualize tumors of all sizes, including those as small as 1/8 inch.

If an abnormality is identified on a breast imaging exam, we may perform a biopsy to determine if cancer is present. Using our top-quality imaging technologies, we are committed to helping women in our community get the screenings they need. This enables us to diagnose breast cancer in its earliest stages—when it is most treatable.
