COVID-19 and Pregnancy - An Update for our Patients
We would like to take this opportunity to update you about your maternity care during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and assure you that our dedicated team of expert nurses, physicians and midwives are committed to providing safe and effective care to every patient who walks through our doors.
The Women’s Center at Fairview Park Hospital is devoted to women’s health in Laurens County and the surrounding community. Our obstetricians and gynecologists (OB-GYN) are here to provide treatment for routine services and hospitalizations.
To schedule an appointment with one of our OB-GYN physicians, please call (478) 738-6277.
The Women's Center includes a thirty-bed OB-GYN unit that cares for women who are having difficulty with their pregnancies, mothers who have experienced their baby’s delivery or loss and women who require certain gynecological procedures such as hysterectomy, bladder repair for incontinence and various other associated procedures relating to women’s health.
Labor and delivery
Our labor, delivery and recovery (LDR) is an eight-bed, birthing center unit specially designed to provide a comfortable, soothing, home-like atmosphere for your labor and delivery. Each nurse has received specialized training in fetal monitoring and is trained to assist you and your coach in breathing techniques and relaxation exercises.
For women who require cesarean section, we have a dedicated operating room staffed with nurses and scrub techs who specialize in caring for mothers and newborns.
Virtual childbirth classes
When you are pregnant, you want reliable information to help you plan for your baby’s arrival. Fairview Park Hospital offers three special classes to help you understand what to expect during your delivery.
When you sign up for these online classes, you can expect valuable guidance and tips from our experts. Classes are held virtually and you have the ability to ask questions and interact with the instructors.
All classes are virtual via WebEx.
Please register online or by calling (478) 738-6277 for times and online access.
These classes include:
- Great Expectations: This class covers all aspects of 3rd-trimester pregnancy, labor and delivery, and the postpartum period.
- Breastfeeding Basics: This course covers everything you’ve ever wanted to know about breastfeeding to help you get off to a good start.
- Newborn Care and Safety: This class helps parents understand infant care, including the basics of diapering, bathing and handling, as well as deciphering infant behavior.
Newborn and Level II Nursery
Offering a Level II Nursery gives Fairview Park Hospital the capabilities to care for sick newborns. The nursery nurses are trained to stabilize these newborns and provide the additional care that they need.
All newborns are assessed and stabilized at birth by a certified neonatal resuscitative provider. Your newborn may remain in your delivery room with you during your recovery period. We encourage you to hold and breastfeed your newborn during this time. After your recovery, the newborn is transported to the newborn nursery where he/she is closely monitored to ensure the baby transitions well. Weight and measurements are obtained at this time, as well as newborn pictures. The approximate time in the nursery is an hour.
The security of your newborn is very important to us. After delivery, we band your newborn with a security and an identification band. We also provide the mother and father with a matching identification band.
At Fairview Park Hospital, we are proud to offer minimally invasive gynecologic surgery for women needing surgery of any kind. We utilize da Vinci® Robotic System for our minimally invasive surgeries so women have a shorter stay in the hospital and a shorter recovery period.
Compared with traditional gynecological surgery, the benefits of robotic-assisted surgery include:
- Smaller incisions with minimal scarring
- Less trauma to the patient, including less pain
- Decreased use of pain medication
- Less bleeding
- Decreased risk of infection
Gynecological surgery is typically recommended to treat the following conditions in women:
- Heavy menstrual bleeding
- Fibroid tumors

We are proud to offer robotic surgeries for other health conditions and treatment.
