Many gastrointestinal disorders, while inconvenient and unpleasant, are often treatable. Fairview Park Hospital’s Outpatient Endoscopy Center is fully staffed with experienced, board-certified physicians, registered nurses, endoscopy technicians and support staff. Our primary goal is to provide you with the highest quality medical care for your endoscopy needs.
Endoscopy is a minimally invasive medical procedure that examines the inside of your body using a medical device called an endoscope. This device has a long, thin tube with a light and video camera which captures images of the inside of your body so that they can be recorded and viewed on a screen by your physician.
Our Outpatient Endoscopy Center provides the following endoscopy services:
EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy or upper endoscopy): Upper GI endoscopies investigate many health problems, including bleeding, pain, persistent heartburn, unexplained weight loss, ulcers, blockages and inflammation.
Sigmoidoscopy and Colonoscopy: Another GI endoscopy looks at the lower GI tract. A sigmoidoscopy examines the rectum and lower colon, while a colonoscopy checks the entire colon and rectum. These tests look for early signs of colon cancer and are routine for people over 50. Doctors use them to look for causes of abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, unexplained weight loss or unexplained changes in bowel habits.
Hemorrhoid banding: This treatment is for hemorrhoids that don’t respond to home treatments. It’s a minimally invasive technique that involves tying the base of the hemorrhoid with a rubber band to stop blood flow to the hemorrhoid.
