Our outpatient procedures
Our hospital offers a wide range of outpatient procedures, also known as Same Day Surgery. Our outpatient surgery center has a separate entrance to the hospital and is equipped with the latest surgical technology.
Our skilled surgeons are proud to offer a variety of procedures as outpatient surgeries for conditions that once required more invasive surgery. Compared to traditional "open" procedures, outpatient surgery allows patients shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times.
Arriving at our hospital for same day surgery
Same Day Surgery is located on our hospital's campus. Please park in the Same Day Surgery parking lot located on the right side of the hospital behind our Imaging Center.
Our hours of operation are:
Monday through Friday, 6am to 4pm.
Minimally invasive surgery
We specialize in minimally invasive surgery and use advanced surgical techniques, such as endoscopy, laparoscopy and robot-assisted surgery for many of our procedures. Depending on the patient and condition being treated, these procedures can be an excellent alternative to conventional surgery, which typically involves large incisions. Minimally invasive surgery typically requires incisions that are only a few millimeters in length.
Laparoscopic surgery
Laparoscopic surgery uses a thin, telescopic-like instrument called a laparoscope, which is inserted through a small incision by the belly button. The laparoscope is connected to a tiny video camera that projects a view of the operative site through video monitors located in the operating room. This allows the general surgeon to view the operative area on the screen.
During the procedure, the abdomen is inflated with carbon dioxide to give the surgeon a better view of the operative area. The surgeon then makes two or three additional small incisions near the laparoscope and inserts specialized surgical instruments to perform the surgery. Following the procedure, the small incisions are closed with sutures and covered with surgical tape. After a few months, the incisions are barely visible.
Robot-assisted surgery
Our surgeons are honored to change and improve the surgical experiences of patients in Middle Georgia through state-of-the-art robotic surgery. Robot-assisted surgery allows surgeons to operate through tiny incisions, one to two centimeters in length, with great vision, precision, dexterity and control. The avoidance of any major incisions dramatically reduces the traumatic impact of the operation on the patient. As a result, patients recover more quickly, experience less pain, and have fewer complications.
During robot-assisted surgery, the surgeon is in complete control of the robotic surgical system. The surgeon’s hands control the movement and placement of the instruments while the robotic system mimics the surgeon’s hand movements, enabling the surgeon to follow the same steps as traditional surgery with increased precision.
Robot-assisted gynecologic surgery
Fairview Park Hospital is committed to advancing the field of surgical techniques in gynecologic surgery. Traditional gynecologic surgery uses a large incision, which typically causes significant pain, trauma to the body and a lengthy recovery period. Our gynecologists and physicians provide alternatives to these surgeries using minimally invasive robot-assisted gynecologic surgery.
Robot-assisted ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery
We are proud to offer an innovative, minimally invasive approach for the treatment of benign and some malignant tumors of the tongue, throat and voice box (larynx), called transoral robotic surgery (TORS). Fairview Park Hospital was the first hospital to offer this procedure in Dublin, Georgia, and its surrounding 13-county area.
Benefits of TORS
Because TORS is an incision-less procedure, patients may enjoy a wide range of benefits compared to traditional procedures. This includes:
- Facial and neck tissue and muscle preservation
- Faster recovery times
- Minimal to no side effects swallowing, tasting, breathing or speaking
- No visible disfigurement and scarring
- Possibly reduced chemotherapy or radiation doses
- Reduced blood loss
- Reduced risk of infection and complications
- Shorter hospital stays
Candidates for TORS
TORS may be recommended to adult patients diagnosed with benign and, in some cases, malignant cancers (T1 and T2) of the mouth, tonsil, tongue or voice box. Patients may still require radiation and/or chemotherapy if their lesions are cancerous. However, doses may be significantly reduced, improving their functional outcomes.
Patients with sleep apnea may also benefit from TORS. TORS helps patients with sleep apnea by removing excess tissue located at the very back of the tongue. Though the procedure is minimally invasive, patients sometimes experience swelling of the airway and require close monitoring in the hospital for the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery.
Benefits of minimally invasive surgery
Compared to traditional surgery, the benefits of minimally invasive surgery include:
- Decreased need for pain medication
- Decreased risk of infection and complications
- Faster recovery
- Less bleeding
- Less pain
- Less risk of bowel obstructions after surgery
- Less scarring
- Less trauma to the body
- Shorter hospital stay
- Smaller incisions
